The Button Lady

The Button Lady (Pauline Walker) started in 1978 by selling hand spun garments on the craft fair circuit. Loathing to finish her pure wool knitwear with synthetic buttons Pauline searched for  people making them from shell and horn. Soon her customers were asking to buy them as they couldn't find anything similar in the shops.
Pauline was then asked to join the 'Spinners & Weavers Summer School' as a trader,
 The Button Lady was born.

We (the buttons and I) started going to knitting exhibitions as a supplier rather than a craft person. As The Button Lady I am always pleased to help people find the buttons they need  and whenever customers ask for a specific button I try to find it. For example, it took about 2 years for me to find the 1/8 inch doll buttons which are made in the USA. If you are looking for a button please ask, if I don't stock it, I might be able to
locate it for you.
I have contacts in the Philippines and Hong Kong that supply me with a shell range as well.

There are also different charms, from frying  pans, guitars, boots, lanterns and jelly moulds to a very large range of Christmas and Glittery charms. These aren’t just popular with quilters, a lot are used to make ear-rings.

I stock buttons from afar  including South Africa where I found my Pottery Spider buttons.

Catalogue costing £1.50, refundable when you spend

We have always made slipper soles and have different tea towels for Knitters & Quilters to go with the Spinners, Weavers, Smile and Cat ones already in the range.
